ABOUT SALT & MIST SEA TOURS
Captain Joe Pistone was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in the Hudson Valley Region of upstate New York. Upon moving to New England nearly 25 years ago, he fell in love with its history and was completely taken by the mysticism and enchantment of the North Atlantic Ocean. In Maine, he spent nearly every day on Casco Bay, exploring lighthouses, islands and the sea life of the Gulf of Maine and in 2015, Salt and Mist Sea Tours was born, providing various Sea Tours on Casco Bay during the summer months in Maine. Due to its success, Salt and Mist Sea Tours expanded in 2017, opening a second location in St. Petersburg, Florida, offering Dolphin, Manta Ray, Bird and Manatee Tours and as well as stunning Sunset Cruises on Boca Ciega Bay and the Gulf of Mexico during the winter months.
In addition to Salt and Mist Sea Tours, Captain Joe is a Sea Captain at a 108 year old maritime camp in Kennebunk, Maine teaching children how to fish for Maine lobster with his “Critter Cruise”, teaches proper boat safety and general navigation in his “Power Squadron” class and takes them on adventures to Goat Island and Cape Porpoise Lighthouse in his ‘Island Picnic at Sea” class. He has also worked as a Sea Captain on the Gulf of Mexico, conducting Eco tours in and around the 10,000 Islands off of Marco Island, Florida.
Captain Joe holds a dual Bachelor Degree in Arts and Sciences from American International College in Springfield, MA and is a graduate of the prestigious “Captain School” in Cape Coral, Florida. He is certified in First Aid and CPR, holds a US Transportation Workers Identification Credential and is a United States Coast Guard Licensed Sea Captain.

THE BOATS
Salt and Mist Sea Tours- South Portland, Maine location: Captain Joe named his boat “Dorothy” after his late mother, the beautiful Dorothy Pistone. Dorothy was an avid fan of the natural beauty of Maine and enjoyed visiting her son in the summer months along with his sister Christina and his nieces Allison, Kyra and his nephew James.
“Dorothy” is a 25′ 2013 Bayliner 245 and a fully approved US Coast Guard Vessel. She is incredibly seaworthy, fitted with a deep V hull perfect for the waters of the Atlantic. She is equipped with all accessories needed for any emergency such as VHF Radio, First Aid Kit, Life Jackets, Whistles, Charts, Flares and Fire Extinguishers and offers a spacious bathroom and a full galley below!
Fitted with the very latest in safety equipment, “Dorothy” is registered and insured.
Salt and Mist Sea Tours- St. Petersburg, Florida location: “Giuseppe” is a 21′ 2018 Bayliner VR5 and a fully approved US Coast Guard Vessel. He is incredibly seaworthy, stable and is equipped with all accessories needed for any emergency such as VHF Radio, First Aid Kit, Life Jackets, Whistles, Charts, Flares and Fire Extinguishers.
Fitted with the very latest in safety equipment, “Giuseppe” is registered and insured.
Carrying just 4 passengers, on board the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. Seating is arrange to maximize boat performance and comfortably allow guests to sit in the bow or stern cockpits.
